  2. We cannot control the wind that comes our way; we cannot control the frequency with which the winds come or their intensity. We can, and must control the way that we adjust to these winds.
I am always amazed at how our young adults underestimate the strength and courage of our ancestors. Facing the daily abuse as slaves and later sharecroppers, they developed and maintained a sense of hope, destiny and purpose. At this time when the prayers of those ancestors are being answered with our material and socio-economic prosperity, all to many of our children and grandchildren have no clue as to how to develop and maintain a sense of purpose, destiny and direction apart from the materialism of our society. What are your thoughts?

  3. We cannot control the circumstances of our lives, but we can control the way in which we respond to them. Circumstances do not make us who are are - they simply reveal who we are. In one of my poems, I challenge my granddaughters to be the apple at the top of the tree. Many walk through the orchard of their lives, but are not willing or capable of meeting the requirements to get on their level. Their grandmother was such a young woman. I had to get on my tippy toes to approach her. Too many young woman have been partially devoured and stepped over on the ground in the orchard. I see all to many each day. . .See "She Walks and My Queen, pg. 67"

  5. Life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. Charles Swindoll

This seems to support my favorite thoughts that situations and circumstances do not make us who we are, they reveal who we are - how we react to stimulus. Faith gives us the ability to wait on the Lord before striking out on our own.
